Nissan Motor eyes 5.5% market share

Nissan Motor India Private Limited (NMIPL) is aiming for a a 5.5 per cent share in the Indian car market in three years.

“We are ramping up our network and hoping to have 30 outlets from the current 20 by the year end and 100 by 2012,” said Abhijeet Pandit, vice-president (sales, marketing and after sales), Hover Automotive India.

Pandit launched the company’s ‘Made-in-India’ compact car Micra here on Thursday. Hover Automotive India is the exclusive strategic partner of Nissan Motor India for sales and marketing.

The company is planning to sell 100,000 units in the domestic market by 2013 and have five more models from the current four. It has produced 80,000 units this year from its Chennai plant, which has the production capacity of 200,000 units.

Micra is the first car in India to introduce luxury features like intelligent key and push-button start in the small car category. NMIPL will commence exports to more than 100 countries including West Asia, Africa, and eastern and western Europe in the second half of this fiscal year.

Micra is available in three variants with price ranging from Rs 405,076 for XE (entry), Rs 4.7 lakh for XL (mid) and Rs 5.3 lakh for XV (top).

“Andhra Pradesh will be well-covered and we will soon be opening outlets in Vishakhapatnam and Vijaywada in the coming years,” he added.
