Maha govt decides to rein in Sena
Sanjay Jog / Mumbai Feb 05, 2010, 01:14 IST

The Congress-led government in Maharashtra, under attack for being liberal towards the Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena despite their agitation on several issues including the north Indian migrants in Mumbai, has decided to take strong steps to rein in these forces.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Home Minister R R Patil today said the state government would initiate action against the Shiv Sena mouthpiece, Saamna, for promoting communal disharmony and enmity.

The reaction came after Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray asked his party members to show black flags to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi during the latter’s visit to Mumbai tomorrow, in protest against the Congress leader’s ‘Mumbai for all’ comment. Gandhi had ticked off the Sena by asserting that Mumbai is for all Indians and people had a right to go anywhere in the country.
