Ideacts plans pan-India presence
BS Reporter / Chennai/ Hyderabad Jul 15, 2010, 00:24 IST

Ideacts Innovations, a Bangalore-based cyber cafe management and security solutions provider, is aiming at having a pan-India presence, hopefully in the next 10 months, said its retail head Krishna Swamy. According to a survey conducted by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IMAI), there are 180,000 cyber cafes in the country.

“With the Information Technology Amendment Act 2008 providing a clear definition for cyber cafe by including them under the term 'intermediaries', cyber cafes are now supposed to comply with the regulatory norms,” he said here on Wednesday.

Discussions with various police departments, including Kolkata, Guwahati, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, are in an advanced stage, Swamy said, adding while some states had made it mandatory to use Ideacts’ solution, others labelled it as a recommended software.

Clinck Cyber Cafe Manager caters to the security norms laid down by the law enforcement agencies for public Internet access points. It maintains data including photos, contact numbers, address and identity proofs of net surfers.

This, in the incident of receiving a hoax or threatening mail, helps the cyber crime police in tracking the IP address and proceed further in nabbing the culprit. The solution also offers modules that enable a cyber cafe owner to track accounting and closing collection, along with a printing manager embedded in the product.

Swamy said the company had deployed its free-of-cost solution at over 13,800 cyber cafes across 16 cities in states including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. “Considering the huge bandwidth lying in cyber cafes, we are planning to get into the e-commerce space, especially e-ticketing, during the next quarter,” he said.
