Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited (BAPL), which is developing an airport city near Durgapur, is seeking a combination of exemptions, incentives and subsidies to attract solar equipment and technologies firms.
With the intention of attracting domestic and international investments in the range of Rs 2,000-3,000 crore, BAPL will approach the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for a 'solar valley' status that entails certain benefits.
“We will shortly make an application to MNRE through the West Bengal government. About 100 acres have been earmarked for the solar valley, which will be available towards early 2011,” BAPL chief executive office Subrata Paul said. Singapore's Changi Airports has a 26 per cent stake in the project, which is proposed to be spread over about 2,300 acres in the Bardhaman district of the state.
